Connect your own phone number

Before you start — important

  • Your phone number cannot be registered on WhatsApp Personal or WhatsApp Business App at the same time
  • You need a number that can receive SMS or voice calls for the one-time verification code
  • VoIP (virtual) numbers are often rejected by Meta — use a physical SIM where possible

What you'll need

Admin access to a Meta Business Portfolio

Your Facebook account must have Full Access or Admin role. Check at business.facebook.com → Settings → People.

Two-factor authentication enabled on Facebook

Meta requires 2FA before you can connect any WhatsApp Business number.

A phone number ready for verification

A mobile or landline that can receive an SMS or phone call. VoIP numbers are often blocked by Meta.

Step-by-step guide

Open the connect flow in Wadwin

Go to Wadwin → Onboarding and click Connect WhatsApp API. Select "Yes, I have a number" when prompted.

Sign in with Facebook

A Meta pop-up will appear. Sign in with the Facebook account that has Admin access to your Meta Business Portfolio. If you're on the wrong account, click "Log into another account".

Select your Business Portfolio and WABA

Choose your Meta Business Portfolio. Meta will either find your existing WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) or guide you through creating one. Confirm your business name, website, and timezone — timezone and currency cannot be changed after creation.

Verify your phone number

Enter your phone number with the correct country code. Choose SMS or phone call for your verification code. Enter the 6-digit code when it arrives and click Next.

You're live!

After completing the Meta flow, Wadwin receives your credentials automatically. Your number is connected — send a WhatsApp message to your number to confirm everything works.

Meta's business verification runs in the background. You don't need to wait for it before messaging customers.

Pro tip: Use a System User token (optional)

Wadwin uses a permanent access token from Meta. If you ever need to regenerate your token manually (e.g. after a security review), create a System User in Meta Business Settings and generate a token with Never expiry.

  1. Go to Meta Business Settings → System Users → Add
  2. Create a System User with Admin role
  3. Generate New Token → enable whatsapp_business_messaging and whatsapp_business_management
  4. Set expiry to Never and copy the token into Wadwin settings
